The Lost Waiter

From last few days, I was having my posting at Emergency department. The posting there used to be quite hectic and the story was similar today. I was tired and having my lunch at PH cafeteria. At meantime, someone tapped me from the back and mentioned, “Oh sir, how are you?”. I turned back. There I saw a thinly built teenage boy with black complexion and few pimples on his face. It was known face to me. But I was surprised to see him there and at that moment. I gave him a happy smile and asked to sit by my side. That boy used to work at same café probably a year back. He was from Thingan( Makwanpur) , one of the rural area of the district, the same place where I  had been  during my community posting. He had become quite close with me at those days after knowing that I had visited his village. He was charming, helpful and loyal. He used to behave me differently than other usual costumers. I remember, he used to serve some unordered items as well, with love and respect. I used to have fun time talking with him during lunch. Actually he had became my good lunch friend. He had done +2 on science from United Academy, one of the renowned college of Kathmandu valley, probably on scholarship scheme. After finishing +2 study, generally everyone joins any one of the entrance preparation classes and do prepare for doctor , engineering etc. But the story was somehow different in his case. He had left study. He was from the poor family so their parents couldn’t  afford the finance. But, his face never showed that pain. Days were passing. One day, he came with same smile and sat by my table. He mentioned that he was trying to go abroad as foreign employee. He also added probably he wont come to work from next day. He took my phone number and promised to be in touch. I used to suggest him to join any of the bachelor programme but not to left the study. But, he was determined. I wished him good luck for future and bid goodbye. Since then, almost one year passed. He never called me , I too was quite busy in study and frankly speaking I have almost forgotten him. But all of sudden, he appeared today like a miracle. I was amazed. I thought, he might have come Nepal on leave or something like that. But, as I talked further the story was different. His life had took U turn. In other words he brought magic to his own life. After leaving the job, he was dreaming to go abroad. But, I don’t know why his plan didn’t go the way he wanted. So, he was in the same city for one year. I came to know that, after failing to go abroad he started preparing for IOE and after 2 months of hard work at home  he was succeeded and now studying Civil engineering at IOE. He didn’t even join the institute because of poor economy. The same person to whom people used to know by a waiter of a small café is now going to be an engineer saap, wow.. Not only that, he is studying engineering at the most renowned college of Nepal , IOE. I was socked to hear that.

Almost everyone, after completing +2 in physical science from the whole nation, tries his/her best to get enrolled at IOE. People study so hard with all facilities and spending lots of money, joining different institutes but still they fail and some of them even commit suicide. But this guy, from very poor economic background, who used to work at café for money shaped his own future so nicely. His did really touched my heart. I really wanted to salute him. His determination, labour and optimism should be respected.  For those who dream high, their background doesnt matters much. #Thank You

  1. I am more than overjoyed to know this story..
EDUCATION is only and undoubtedly the most powerful weapon against poverty and discrimination....
Thousands of such stories will one day vanish the monopoly of rich- capitalist, bureaucrats and politicians from our country...
